Connecticut Stylish

One of my favorite designers and a great source of inspiration has to be Victoria Hagan. Her designs are simple, functional, informal and yet super stylish. Her stylish home is shown in AD this August and it's a can't miss must see! Pictures goes straight to the Stockholm Vitt inspirational idea bank and inspiration library! I must say my style is very similar to hers, even have the same shades on our walls including the grayish green  (in our utility area! )

The kitchen picture is really a signature Victorian Hagan and what I would probably try to describe if someone asked me what her style was.

Celebrity Kitchens

As featured in AD in August 2011, actor Hank Azaria’s Bel Air residencecelebrates comfort over flash. Decorator Trip Haenisch, who gave the house what he described as a much-needed organic overhaul, installed French-oak floors in the kitchen and created the island using reclaimed wood topped by Carrara marble. The industrial pot rack and light fixtures—like the stainless-steel Viking range and hood, and Sub-Zero refrigerators—complement the counters and backsplash of dark-gray Basaltina stone.

Country Garden

Having some computer issues to day and can't seem to be able to update blog from iPad, which is a bit annoying... Anyway, raining here still but the garden seem to like it at least!  With all the rain a bit of a rethink of the flower beds are required and I need some bright and sunny (but not yellow)  flowers that bloom late summer. Next year think it will be all salvia & lavender in big blocks as I love both of these and they are so easy to keep!

Lovely Summer House

Found these pictures last week and saved to my inspirational summer house file (for the summer house I one day will own :0), can't remember where I found them but a good guess is Houzz.com and from the look of the house, I guess American East coast 'cottage'. Lovely, lovely house!

Hanging by the Pool

Well if I ever move to a country where actually having a pool in the garden would make sense, this is how I would make it look like. New England styled gray houses with summery blues and white. Lovely!

This pool is actually located in Sweden and the picture is by Skona Hem

Large Mirror in Hallway

I just love this picture! It's American East Coast and Slettvoll in one. We had a carpenter build a mirror like this in our hallway and it looks great! The only thing needed now is a very large hallway so we can fit a sideboard too. Next house maybe!

Lovely Summer Home

If you ask me, white and blue is the best summer color combo there is, just like this Swedish summer house. The oak worktop and paneling in kitchen also works very well as does the lovely big window in the launch. Great summer style!

Danish White

Another Danish house, white pained/ limed washed floorboards, white walls and all in all a very summery feel! Might actually do the house all white next time around, but import pine from Scandinavia. The pine , for what ever reason, that has been used in most English houses are not just good enough quality wise (if you have good floorboards count yourself lucky). Liming the floors will also stop them from going yellow, which is the shade I really don't like in floors.

Summerhouse in Black & White

We seen a lot of the black & white trend, especially in Danish design over the last year or so. Too much or still working? I think the monochrome scheme works great as a base, just add a few plants, and a colorful cushion or two!  And summerhouses should be easy to live in just like this. Works year after year!

Happy Sunny Friday!

At Majorca over the weekend so nice and sunny it is! Lying by the pool, surfing for bathroom floors. I know more or less how I want the final product to look and feel and know what furniture, fittings and wall tiles I want, but when it comes to floors it all becomes much more difficult. Should I go with the classic limestone floors, octagon Victorian tiles or dark?  Of all the pictures I have seen to date, I am very impressed with the above. Both floor and all tiles are cheapest option ever, but the combination with the large mirror, dark contemporary vanity unit and the glass shower really makes it timeless.

Option octagon tiles in a dark grayish color?

Traditional Summer Cottages

This time of year I always move from apartments and big houses to browsing house ads for cute summer cottages. If we ever decided to buy one, it would be close to the sea or at least on a lake with traditional charm and character, just like these that has been saved in the summer cottage inspiration file! Bathrooms might actually work in the 'winter house' too.
