Inspirational Photos

These pictures are taken by the Danish photografer Morten Holtum. Very white Scanidnavian blond, but not sterile with the match of textures, mix of old and new as well as use of different tones of white.

Nantucket Retreat

This Nantucket retreat is designed by the interior designer Victoria Hagan and was featured in American interior design magazine Architectural Digest last year. This sumer home is elegant and sophisticated yet informal and relaxing and gets very high grades in my books. It perfectly captures the New England sirit and feel. I love everything about this beach house but especially like the lamps in the kitchen, will have to track these down on my next US bound trip...

Happy Long Weekend!

Happy long weekend all!  I hope you are off to somewhere as nice as this.

Pictured borrowed from House Beautiful

Home to Sex & the City

With the new Sex & the City movie premier this week, a movie said to be a 2.5 hrs long fashion show, American Elle Decor features Carrie & Mr. Big's Manhattan apartment and some other pics from the set. Very, very, very NYC, but I guess that is the whole idea!

Elle Decor also have pictures from SJP's Hampton retreat and a few othe rvery nice weekend/ beach get-aways including Meg Ryan's (more of that to come in a later blog) well worth a browse.

Also, for hose inspiration check the June 2010 issue of Homes & Garden's out, it features three very lovely homes and weekend homes.

At home with Lexington

A sneak peak inside the home of the founder and owner of Lexington Company as featured in Skona Hem. Lexington is one of the Swedish companies providing New England looking bed linen (the softest there is), towels and cushions for an overall New England look. Lexington has just launch an online shop, unfortunately they don't yet ship to the UK, but are considering it as an option to develop and grow their business (please e-mail them if you would also want to buy online in the UK!).

Love the large light living room, roomy enough to have two couches with light from two sides and the dark worktop/ white base kitchen table.

New England Living with GANT

GANT Home is New England style! Preppy, country Ivy League in a very 'East coast kind of way'. One of the trendsetters in the segment with a lot of followers. Unfortunately their home collection is not yet available in the UK.

Summer by Pottery Barn

As I have mentioned a few times before, Pottery Barn's catalogues and website are fantastic for inspiration. Below are from their summer collection, I feel very summery when I see them...long lazy days at the beach or in the summer cottage to look forward to!

Happy 3rd!

Today we have been in our flat 3 years! 3 years! Much longer then I, or anyone ever though and even though we love it and it will be hard to find something as suitable but I am itching for a new project to keep me buzy.

Between the Commons

This traditional Victorian London home is located 'between the Commons' in South West London. I like the Victorian patterned glass in the front door, the broad floor boards, celing hight and fireplace...

the Adriondack Chair

The Adriondack chair is a classic American outdoor chair, originally designed by Thomas Lee for his sumer cottage in the Adriondack Mountains as earley as 1903. It makes me think of summers by the beach in New England. I just got one in teak for our patio in London to add a bit of beach feel to city living, very comfy for a coffee break in the sun.

Pop of Color by Pappelina

The Swedish interior design company Pappelina,  are famous for their plastic rugs in colorful and playful patterns. They add an instant pop of color to any hallway, kitchen or bath (or balcony!). And because they are made of plastic they are also very easy to clean (sooo convenient!).

Kitchen Islands

In the next home we will hopefully have (among with a few more bedrooms and bathrooms and a sunnier outdoor space) a bigger kitchen. And one thing I really like in kitchens are islands. The plan is to have one that would be used for informal dining/ snacking, breakfasting or a spot to just read the paper and not to mention the central point for any party (as any good party will end up in the kitchen). A few inspirational ideas;
